Deny the Space

Solar Array and Pond Exclusion

Permanent exclusion for solar arrays and open water, scaled for multi-site rollouts.

How It Works

What it is and where it fits.

Birds nesting beneath rooftop and ground-mount solar arrays chew wiring, pile up debris, and create corrosion and fire risk along with efficiency losses. Exclusion is the only permanent fix. Deterrents that do not physically block access typically fail within one to two nesting seasons.

BSI closes the gap between the panel frame and the roof with PVC-coated mesh fastened by non-penetrating clips, so there is no drilling and no risk to the manufacturer warranty. Airflow for panel cooling is preserved, and access points remain for maintenance crews. For stormwater and retention ponds, BSI installs engineered netting systems, including the largest net installation in company history at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Approach
Deny the space. Permanent physical exclusion.
Target species
Nesting birds under arrays, plus gulls and waterfowl on open water.
Typical installations
Rooftop arrays, ground-mount arrays, carport canopies, and stormwater ponds.
Specifications and Tradeoffs

The details buyers and specifiers ask about.

What we install

1/2 inch PVC-coated galvanized steel mesh, 18 gauge, UV-resistant black finish
Stainless steel clips with self-locking washers, no drilling into panel frames
Corner miters and rail end caps, with no gaps larger than 1/2 inch

Where it excels

Protects the array without voiding manufacturer warranties
Multi-site rollouts under a single contract
Maintains airflow and maintenance access

Limitations

Perimeter work is panel by panel on large arrays
Pond netting requires engineered anchoring and lift access
