Know the Bird Before You Choose the System
The right exclusion method depends on the species. Each guide covers identification, the damage it causes, its legal protection status, and the systems that work.
Common pest birds at commercial facilities.
Why species identification matters.
Most birds are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Their active nests and eggs cannot be disturbed without a permit, so the timing and method of control matter as much as the product.
Not federally protected
Pigeons, European starlings, and house sparrows are non-native species with no federal protection. They can be excluded or removed at any time, though local rules still apply.
Federally protected
Gulls, swallows, crows, vultures, Canada geese, woodpeckers, grackles, chimney swifts, and herons are protected under the MBTA. Exclusion and deterrents installed before nesting are the legal, lasting approach.
Not sure what species you are dealing with?
Send two photos and the project location. We will identify the species and recommend a system and scope.
